LCARS inspired clock Sony SW2

Star Trek LCARS operating system inspired free watch face for Sony Smartwatch 2

Digital watch face for Star Trek fans. Does not do anything special, but looks pretty good: I added some Xmas tree FX 😉

On users’ request 5×4 widget version was added.

12th Oct., 2014: two phone battery 1×1 widgets added – static and animated. They should fit the 5×4 layout well.

  • John Kovacich  says:

After recent update, lcars watch has gone black. I suspect that the missing widget is to blame. Removing the widget watch face fixed the problem. But I prefer the smaller widget.

    • John Kovacich  says:

The watch face went black after the update, but I was able to rebuild it by deleting it and starting over.

      • piotr  says:

That’s possible. I had to rename some packages to be able to add widgets, so the application structure was changed.

    • Andy  says:

Same here on my Sony Xperia Z1 after the smart watch update.
Uninstalled and reinstalled but still get the same problem.
How can I help with debugging?

      • piotr  says:

At the time we can do nothing, since the bug there is in the Sony software. Hopefully they’ll fix it after new year, as they promised.

  • Karin zeitelberger  says:

Ich habe installiert, am Handy zeigt Installation an, auf swatch 2 finde ich diese App nicht.

    • piotr  says:

There may be many reasons related to your phone and Android version, which I don’t know. Do you see the application installed on your phone? Do other watch faces work well? If I were you, I’d try cleaning the Smartwatch 2 application data. Caution: this is going to reset all custom watch faces, you’ll have to add them again.

  • Kev  says:

Something strange after the last smartwatch update today.
The date is not showing correctly.. Today is Wed 17 Dec.
All I see is Tue Dec. Day is wrong and numerical date is missing.
Using Xperia Z1 and latest fw on phone and watch.
    Can you reproduce it?

  • piotr  says:

I will try. Unfortunately Sony didn’t provide any information on what they changed. Displaying days of month was buggy in the previous version of their software. Maybe they’ve just done something to improve it. The question is: what?

  • Laurentiu  says:

After last update don’t work number in date.
    Sorry for bad English

    • piotr  says:

Yes, it’s the problem affecting all custom watch faces after the Sony software update. Please read comments above and the post on the main page.

  • rainer  says:

Hi, it only shows me the loading bars on the watch and the watch does not show the star trek logo. Hope you find the error. You make a great work. Thx for it and i wish you a merry Xmas. Greetings from Germany

    • piotr  says:

Please try clearing SW2 app data on your phone. By the way: please take a look at this post: http://dev.nwg.pl/problems-after-the-software-upgrade. There are some problems at the time, related to the new Sony software. We’re waiting for Sony to fix it.

  • Karin zeitelberger  says:

  • lee simpson  says:

Hi my lcars watch face shows incorrect day of the week but does change day to day but always wrong is there somthing I am missing to fix this as I cant find any setting that can correct this problem.

    • John Kovacich  says:

ALL my third party watches went completely BLACK since the SONY update. I’m currently using one of the SONY watchfaces (ugh) hoping that a patch will be coming. I dread the possibility that I may have to uninstall and re-install them all.

      • piotr  says:

I regret to say that we still have no reply from Sony. Me must wait for them to provide a patch, what they informally promised to do after new year. The only I can promise is that I’ll make an Android Wear version of LCARS watch.

  • Roy  says:

Date doesn’t show all info. It displays “SUN JAN “. Is this a bug?

  • piotr  says:

Yes, in the new Sony firmware. We’ve been waiting since 17th December for Sony to fix it. 🙁 See comments above.

  • Lions  says:

Date isnt shown correctly on watch. Paired with samsung note 2

    • piotr  says:

It’s caused by a bug in the latest Sony software. See comments above, and this post. We’re still waiting for Sony to fix it.

  • Lions  says:

Funny thing is. the Clock starts with Sunday (no matter which day really is) and counts up correctly 🙂 maybe i should have just try to reinstall the software next sunday 😉 because the month is correct, the time is correct.. just date isnt shown 😉 i can live with that *G*

  • Lions  says:

However, best Watchface so far ! 🙂 thanks!

  • piotr  says:

Hope Sony will fix the firmware one day. Soon it’ll be a full month since they broke it down. 🙁

  • piotr  says:

Good news! The updated Smartwatch 2 app and firmware version (1.6.23 of 14th Jan 2015) from Sony brings custom watch faces and widgets back to life. Please update ASAP.

    • rainer  says:

Hi have 1.0.B.6.32/1.0.A.4.11. Is this the correct one?

    • piotr  says:

1.6.23 is the phone app version. I don’t remember the watch firmware version, and have no SW2 here to check. If you installed Smartwatch 2 app v. 1.6.23, it must have forced the watch firmware upgrade. Please check if it’s true for you. Let me know if any troubles occur. I’ll look at the watch firmware version when I’m back home. Finally – if your software is up to date, LCARS should work well. 🙂

      • John Kovacich  says:

I just updated the SW2 software. I didn’t have to reinstall third party watchfaces, but I DID have to go into the smartwatch software on the phone and EDIT them to replace the watch faces and/or widgets.

        • piotr  says:

I thought so. Couldn’t confirm, as I uninstalled all the old apk while searching a solution.

  • piotr  says:

One more thing: according to users’ feedback it may be necessary to uninstall the watch face / widget, and install it again.

  • Darren Fusellier  says:

Hi tried to set up the star trek watch face, have followed the instructions but can’t seem to find it?
Running latest sw 2 firmware which is recommended but to no avail.
Can you advise on my inability to follow simple instructions please?
    Cheers,
    Darren

    • piotr  says:

If you’ve just made a clean installation, you should add a new watch face, then select LCARS from ‘Clocks’ (or widgets if you want a 5×4 design). If you’ve had it installed with the broken firmware version, after upgrading firmware it may be (according to some users) necessary to uninstall the app and install it again.

  • piotr  says:

Hi guys! The Android Wear version of the LCARS watch face already available. Download from Google Play

  • Sam  says:

Hi, do you have a version of the starwatch app for the samsung gear watch?

    • piotr  says:

Unfortunately not. I’ve never put my hand on any Samsung Gear device.

  • Elizabeth M.  says:

Love the Lcars watch gave for Sony sw2, but I saw the android wear faces and was wondering if you would be releasing those for the Sony as well?

    • piotr  says:

      Hi,

      Look at this: http://dev.nwg.pl/lcars-android-wear.

      • Elizabeth M.  says:

Thanks for the reply, That’s what I saw. I like the circular faces as well as the square ones. Is it possible to add those to the Sony version for the sw2?

        • piotr  says:

IMO circular LCARS layouts make no sense. I made this to have the watch face accepted as an Android Wear app (Google requirement). Furthermore, it wouldn’t look well on the SW2 rectangular screen.

  • David Kitney  says:

Hi.. at the moment I’m using the small lcars face… is it possible to have a 5×4 digital watch over the new batlogo please?

  • Nooky  says:

I reset my sw2 and tried reinstalling LCARS but I coould no longer find this in google play. This is my favorite watchface help
